Heart Shaped Hate has all of the offerings a two-piece, all female, electronica outfit should have; biting lyrics, catchy, chanting vocals, and a reason to dance. As far as instrumentals go, only aggressive percussion and hypnotic synthesizer are involved.
The band is in every way bitter, angry, and cynical toward the trials and tribulations of adolescence as it is bluntly documented in the song “Decapitated in Barbie’s Dreamhouse.” The lyrics state “thousands of plastic role models/ an anorexic army turning teens to trash piles,” blatantly marring the role models and examples set for young people today.
Though the album is only a six track EP, each track packs more punch than a lot of LPs are capable of in eleven or twelve tracks. The album seems to travel faster than sound and just as one really begins getting into the music and understanding what the band is all about, it is over before it really began. Check it out, be prepared for great things from this band.
