Does it ever happen to you? You know, you wake up in the morning feeling well rested, ready to kick the day's ass, and generally just not make a lazy piece of shit out of yourself? You feel great and then after sitting up for a while, the sore throat sets in, the headache starts pounding, the coffee just isn't working, and every bone in your body seemingly starts aching. Well, that's me today.
Happy fucking Monday.
I had a hint of a sore throat on Friday night and it seemed to have dissipated but now it's all coming back. I was even planning on going to the gym this morning. Not happening. But that's not what today's post was really supposed to be about.
I've been getting simultaneously excited and nervous about this term ending. It's definitely going to be nice not having my school work to worry about and all, but before this term started I was off for a couple of weeks after I quit my job and let me tell you--I was bored out of my fucking wits during the occasion. The first week was nice, sure--then after that, well...shit.
So this time around I have a few things I want to get done.
Firstly, I started reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy the other day and I'm having incredible trouble putting it down, so much so that when I finish typing out this post I should be doing my reading for school, but I am seriously contemplating just picking the book back up. Have you read it? No? Well, get on it. Don't like westerns? Tough. It's worth it. Have a weak stomach? Deal with it, you pansy.
With that said, I am excited to get back to reading for pleasure as much I was doing toward the beginning of the term. With this research paper I've been working on (transgender stigmas in horror films--yeah, college rocks) it's been difficult to pick up a book and just read for fun, but now that the breadth of the search is finished, it's time once again to read for fun. I have the majority of McCarthy's work stored on my Nook among many other books I've been meaning to read. I'm excited at the prospect of sitting on my ass and reading as much as possible.
With all of this reading comes another hobby of mine, zining. Though I've been somewhat devoid of inspiration as of late, I am happy to say that I look to dedicate some real time and effort into crafting issue four of Bird Shit. I haven't quite decided what story I'm going to tell with this one, but it's been floating around in my mind lately and that's always a good sign. It means that the wheels are turning, it's going to dawn on me soon.
So, yeah. I have this week left as my last week of classes, next week is finals week (and Dean and I's three year anniversary!), and then I'll be done for a month.
